My friend was involved in several traffic violations. He has a bad driving record. And I guess this is the reason why he’s having difficulty getting cheap car insurance since I’ve heard that having a bad driving record makes you a high risk driver. What I wanna know is how does one become a high risk driver? Also, what can he do to get high risk auto insurance for himself?

Let me just tell you the other reasons that makes a person a high risk driver:
One, is if your license is suspended, cancelled, or you are required to carry SR-22 certificate. Usually a person who experienced those means they had serious traffic violations;
Another is when you are 70 years older. Studies showed that as you aged your driving abilities is also affected thus the tendency to get involved in car accidents are higher as compared to when you are younger.

There are 2 main things you need to be concerned with about your DUI charge.
The first is the criminal charge and the second is the actions the DMV will take against your license due to your DUI offense. Understand that they are 2 separate charges and you need to deal with each and not just the criminal dui charge.
If convicted you will also be required to get what’s known as an sr22 insurance policy as a condition for the DMV to reinstate your drivers license.
